Actually FoxMail is quite safe, it can be set to show HTML messages (those that may come with built in malicious scripts) as plain text, so that you may look at them and determine what to do with them, without the - possibly - embedded scripts having the chance to do their ugly job. HOWEVER... an alert mind and an updated anti-virus program are essential when dealing with eMail nowadays!
FM's Plain-Text view is often not a good option, because many pages can only be viewed the right way in HTML. So, I wonder whether Web-Bugs and other "alarm bells" activated by switching view if your PC is still on-line?
Switching from plain text mode to HTML mode while your system is still on-line would indefinitely turn web bugs and alike on, and would give you "away".
The advise given on the forums in reply to this question is:
If you want to enable the automatic HTML preview, you need to, to avoid web bugs, block in your firewall all HTTP requests from Foxmail. This will let you display just the HTML contained in thee eMail's source.
Also you must patch your IE/OE (mshtml) installation with all cumulative security patches, this to reduce the risk of a virus infection through the mail.
Also the advise was given to view the mail off-line (or at least block all traffic on your firewall for the moment).
