  • Browser FireFox, eMail client FoxMail... but clicking a mailto: link in FF won't open FM...

There are several possibilities, first let's go to the obvious:
    1. Start your FF, then in the address bar type: "about:config" (without the quotes).
    2. Next, in the filter bar that will appear type "mail" (again, without the quotes)
    3. Now find the string that says: network.protocol-handler.external.mailto
    4. behind it you see a value "False", right-click on it, and select "Toggle" from the context menu, the value will now change in "True".

The direct result is that, although the cursor doesn't change on a 'mailto' link, double-clicking will open FoxMail in a compose window, the address properly filled...

The cursor will change when you reload the page in FF ({F5} is OK) and hover over the 'mailto' link.

'mailto' links will be recognized as links from that moment on (I tried my little test page).

    WHEN THE ABOVE DOESN'T WORK

    Then a different solution is:
    1. exit Firefox,
    2. click "Start",
    3. click "Run",
    4. type "firefox.exe -profilemanager" (without quotes) in the "Open:" box (take a note of the space between "e" and "-"),
    5. click "OK",
    6. click "Create Profile",
    7. click "Next",
    8. type a name for the new profile,
    9. click "Finish",
    10. start Firefox with the new profile selected.
Mailto links in Firefox should launch Foxmail now.

To have your extensions back in the new profile:

    1. open Firefox in the original profile,
    2. write down the extensions you want,
    3. download and install them in the new profile (this is a good opportunity to get rid of some of them now ).
To have your bookmarks back in the new profile:
    1. open Firefox in the original profile,
    2. click "Bookmarks",
    3. click "Manage Bookmarks",
    4. click "File",
    5. click "Export" and save the bookmarks to your desktop,
    6. open Firefox in the new profile,
    7. click "Bookmarks",
    8. click "Manage Bookmarks",
    9. click "File",
    10. click "Import",
    11. select "From File",
    12. click "Next",
    13. select the bookmarks file you saved to the desktop,
    14. click "Open".

  • Uhm... FoxMail worked perfectly for a number of months, but now increasingly I have problems sending my mail through my ISP/MSP

You probably had a crash, which resulted in a truncated FoxMail. Download the FM50EN installation file (http://foxmail.hazeleger.net is a safe place) and reinstall FoxMail in the same directory as you installed the previous one. The problem should be solved then.

Note: FoxMail will have been reset to its default condition, you will have to apply patches like the date format patches again!

  • The "Toolbar" in Remote Mailbox Manager is gone... Can you help?

Yes, we can. Actually, it is very simple to cure this problem:

    1. Open Remote Mailbox Manager (toolbar missing)
    2. Click on the "View" menu
    3. Select "Toolbar" from the menu (should be unchecked)
    4. IF the toolbar is displayed as a "floating toolbar" continue with 5, otherwise you're done!
    5. Click the floating toolbar and hold the mouse button down.
    6. Drag the "frame" now to the top of the Remote Mailbox Manager, just below the caption bar.
    7. Release the mouse button... DONE!
