How do I transfer messages from Thunderbird, Netscape Mail, or Eudora to FoxMail?
First of all: Thunderbird uses mailbox files in the MBOX format, so this answer is valid for transferring mail from any eMail client that uses the MBOX format, like for instance Eudora, Netscape Mail and others.
There are two possible solutions:
A. MBOX to EML
There is a Java-script application made by Ulrich Krebs (a programmer very well known here for his UK-Calendar program) called mbox2eml, it can be downloaded from here (read the page first):
Note: Careful, although in English, the folks there seem to be native Spanish speakers, and of course they do use localized versions of Windows. These folks used the program mentioned above and there are some very good tips in the thread...
B. BOX to FOX
(Thanks to Ra-mon for this tip!)
Box2Fox can convert any MBOX mailbox into the native .BOX FoxMail format, without using the EML intermediate import.
It also can do the reverse conversion !
Box2Fox is a German tool, translated in English and ... French.
I have Outlook Express (OE)... how do I migrate my mailboxes to FoxMail?
We assume that you have FoxMail installed, if not... please install it first.
The easiest way is to import an OE account entirely, to do so, go to the "Tools" menu, click on the "Import" entry in the submenu, and then "Outlook Express Account", and follow the on screen instructions.
You also can import mailbox by mailbox; to do so again we go to the "Tools" menu, click on the "Import" entry in the submenu, and then "Outlook Express Mailbox". You will be presented with a list of the available mailboxes (which in OE have the name of the account); you then can import them by double-clicking them. FoxMail will create "on the fly" folders in de currently selected mailbox (In, Sent, Out, etc.), from there you can distribute the messages to any other folder you want to have them located in.
1. Make a folder on your hard disk called "Outlook Export"
2. Open this folder in Windows Explorer
3. Now open Outlook, and tile both the explorer and Outlook horizontally
4. In Outlook, select all the mail you want to export.
5. Now drag the selected messages to the folder in Explorer.
(Note: If you want to MOVE them out of Outlook, hold {SHIFT} while dragging)
6. Release the mouse button when you are in the opened "Outlook Export" folder.
(The messages will be copied/moved in here as Exchange MSG files now)
Repeat steps 4 - 6 for every mailbox/folder you have in Outlook, when done... continue below:
In FoxMail do the following:
1. Select the mailbox, or folder, in which you want to import the Outlook MSG files.
2. From the main screen, open the "File" menu, select the "Import messages from files" option.
3. Now first navigate to the "Outlook Export" folder.
4. Next, change "file type" to "Exchange MSG" (click on the downwards pointing triangle to see a list)
5. Select the messages you want to import, {Ctrl} +{A} to select them all.
6. Click on the [Open] button to start the process.
I want to migrate FoxMail to a different (new) computer. What do I need?
The files/folders to be transferred to the new system:
Foxmail program folder files:
accounts.cfg
fmnmtk.dat
Foxmail.adc
Foxmail program folder folders:
.\mail (which is obvious)
.\template (only if you use other templates than the defaults)
.\AntiSpam (or you would have to start all over again)
.\Faces (if you use a custom mail icon)
.\Address (That's where your address book is located)
These files and folders are then copied from your backup into the new installation of FoxMail on the new computer.
